Snapped SF: Week in Review

August 26th, 2008

Snapped SF is a collaborative photo essay of sorts— we love to see what you’re seeing. Friday brings the round up, generally culled from the photos of our Curbed SF Flickr pool members who have uploaded throughout the preceding week. So join our ranks— we’re welcoming new photogs every week. All photos are credited by name, always, and those who prefer not the Flickr can always submit their snaps to us directly.

Clusterfucked: Brace for Outside Lands Fest

August 26th, 2008

22Aug08_Lands.JPG

Does everyone have their $85-per-day pass? Great! All aboard the Muni batshitmobile to Golden Gate Park, where a bevy of concertgoers are already clogging the city’s public transportation system en route to the clusterfuck that shall be this weekend’s Outside Lands Music and Arts Festival. The Sunset, Richmond, and Panhandle districts are already up-in-arms over the three-day festival; whiners locals are peeved over the thousands of infidels that are spilling into the park at this very moment, disrupting the peace and tranquility of their bedroom communities. Citizen blogger/ transpo vigilante Akit has outed the MTA for its (predictable) lack of logistical know-how; every plane, train, and automobile has been rendered useless, apparently, by the likes of Radiohead and Beck. Bon weekend, everyone!

Fun With Fraud? For $550 per Month, Maybe.

August 26th, 2008

22Aug08_Fraud.png

This flier is floating about the city as we type. Promises, promises— $550-650 per month for studios and one-bedrooms, if you meet income requirements. (And other untold criteria, surely, if we know this city from Adam.) Oh, and you’ll also need to find a roommate over the age of 55. Perfect time for that overdue phone call to Grandma, maybe?

Eater Tastings: Nectarinegate Solved, Four Barrel Opened

August 26th, 2008

Welcome to the week that was at our brother blog, Eater SF.

22Aug08_4Barrel.png

1) Nectarinegate: 1 plate. 1 nectarine. 8 dollars. And so we have Nectarainegate, Zuni’s great, big “fuck you” to San Francisco dining. Aaaand we have the back pedal: Resto says $4.50, not $8. Well then.
2) Chez Papa bread drop: special delivery, or corporal work of mercy?
3) North Beach is under the watchful eye of the ADA; two restos in particular, XOX Truffles and North Beach Sushi, are getting the hustle over handicapped access issues. (Viva the ramp!) In a twist of irony we’ve come to expect from the ‘ole NB, neither restaurant is allowed to solve its problem because zoning laws won’t allow them to touch the sidewalk. *Sigh.*
4) Four Barrel opened, finally. Love.

That’s Rather Hideous: Apocalypse Now

August 26th, 2008

That’s Rather Hideous is the report filed by Curbed SF’s own interior design vice squad. Spot an offender? File a complaint— or a compliment. Witness protection guaranteed. Note: As we don’t employ a company sketch artist, digital photos are always appreciated.

Best. Blog. Ever. It’s Lovely! I’ll Take it! spotted this post-apocalyptic nightmare on Arleta Avenue. While they favor the kitchen, we’re laying our bets on the garage (though the backyard makes for a three-way draw). The property, we should note, shall be “delivered as is, loaded with the personal property and effects of the decedent left in place.” Where’s Kurtz when we need him?

Broker Blogwrap: Mummies, Schizoids & Scammers

August 26th, 2008

Broker BlogWrap is our tribute to the brokersphere. ‘Cause we love you that much— we really do. Posts of note may be passed along accordingly.

2008_08_mummy.jpg1) The Mummy 3 (the one without Rachel Weisz) as an analogy for the mortgage crisis? They’re both annoying, and we know which one is scarier, but now new precedents may be set as an insurance company sues a lender. Metaphor: officially stretched. [Matrix]
2) Luba breaks it down for the n00bs. Just what is an agent anyway? And what do they do? Does international espionage play any role whatsoever? And why are some agents showing schizophrenic tendencies? [Luba’s SF]
3) Rotten Tenant Archetype: The Serial Evictee. “A serial evictee will rent an apartment or home with no intention of paying rent… Instead, they plan to get evicted– after they work the system for up to a year in free rent or cut a deal with the landlord to move out.” Sound like a good plan to you too? Here’s a quick how-to. [Sellsius]

City to Landlords: Fix Your Shit: You know what they say: if…

August 26th, 2008

You know what they say: if at first you don’t succeed … repair and deduct. Did you know that if you have an intransigent landlord who’s not fixing your crap on time, you can get it fixed on your own dime, then subtract the cost from your rent? But don’t go nuts, advises the state, because if your repair doesn’t meet the law’s requirement, said landlord can “sue the tenant to recover the money deducted from the rent, or can file an eviction action based on the nonpayment of rent.” No worries at all.
